There seems to be much discussion on the first part of my issue, but no solution(s) - but I can find nothing at all on the second.
It's been stuck 'indexing' for months - literally months. It was broken in 15.3 (pretty certain it was fine prior to that), and I hoped that updating to 15.3.1 would fix it. I've tried forcing it to reindex - no dice (it went through the motions, but it's still stuck). I have three accounts on my MBP and it's the same in all of them.
I was trying to search for 'February'- I have LOADS of photos taken in February - can't find a single one. The Mac (an M1 Max MBP) is permanently connected to both power and wifi. I remember that it was broken in 15.3, and I hoped that, if it was a bug (it could still well be, of course, we all know how eager Apple is to acknowledge bugs...), it would be fixed in 15.3.1. Some hope...
The second part of this concerns handing-off annotation for photos and screenshots to my M4 iPad Pro. I prefer annotating on my iPad, because it's just so much more natural to do so with a Pencil, rather than a trackpad, so I want this to remain activated - but now I have to remember to activate it every time I want to use it, and I mean every single time - it's per use, not per session (ie if I'm wanting to annotate multiple images, then I have to remember to activate it for each one - more than a little aggravating). I'm pretty certain this has only been happening since I updated to 15.3.1.
As with the Photos indexing issue, this is the same on all three of my accounts (the newest account was one I set up specifically to attempt tp troubleshoot these issues - but brand new account, same issues). Wondering if the indexing issue could have something to do with Apple Intelligence (though I'm really not sure why it would affect it - but I need a straw to clutch at). .
For my use case, the default setting needs to be on - can anyone enlighten me as to how I force it to remain activated...?
Both the Mac and the iPad are logged into the same iCloud account (I only have one).
So, anyone any ideas...? I'd take it to an Apple Store, but I'm housebound. Is there anything that can/could be done via Terminal (I'm not very confident using it, though)...?
Thank you
