Photos stuck on preparing to import

I'm having a weird issue when trying to import photos from my iPhone. When i open Photos, it finds my phone but when it keeps saying "preparing to import photos", but nothing ever happens. Everything is up to date and i've tried restarting both devices. Any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same issue, I have another iphone running 16.6.1 that does not have the issue. My Iphone 13 pro running 17.1.2 with MacOS Big Sur just freezes at the "preparing to import from iPhone" screen. I have read some articles stating if you upgrade to Sonoma it will resolve the issue but I doubt it. I believe there is something wrong with ios 17.1

I did the update and still the same problem.

I just updated to Sonoma and everything is back to normal and working, the only problem is photos is detecting new items that have already been imported. I am hoping duplicates in Sonoma for photos fixes these issues.
