I recently updated to iOS 12 on my iPhone 8, as well as taking my Macbook from Yosemite to High Sierra. After a full restore on the phone, I seem to be unable to sync my folder of photos from my Mac to my iPhone via iTunes the way I've done for years (assign iTunes to pull from a folder on my Mac, hit Sync/Apply in iTunes.)

It's giving me a blank white page in iTunes now that says 'iCloud Photos is on', and that my photos can be downloaded to my device via wifi or cellular network. Now I don't have iCloud turned on my phone or Mac (as far as I can tell), nor do I want to. I'd prefer to sync my photos the semi-old fashioned way. Is that not possible anymore?

I am not sure this is what you are looking for but if you are organizing pictures manually in folders uncheck the "copy items to the Photos Library" in preferences and you can manually organize the original photos (in folders?) - you may have to drag the all pictures and folders to the "Library" to create a path to each folder and picture?

Another aspect might be changes in Photos 2 to 3 to 4 - Mojave is now Photos 4 - Photos 4 has an import feature to import strait to an Album - then you can sync that folder back to your phone by selecting albums to sync in iTunes - but they have to be set up and organized in Photos first - then sync to Phone via iTunes.

I may be way off track hope I read you your comment correctly "sync my folder of photos from my Mac to my iPhone via iTunes"

- if you are trying to sync all your photos - select all photos in iTunes and make sure you are signed into your phone. For me this is not an option with over 100 g of photos

If you want to sync selected specific folders - choose copy from < choose folder < navigate to that folder and they should sync only that folder.

Hope that helps?
