Photos, Videos, and iPod? What happened to Music?

On the Touch you tap a MUSIC icon to get to your music collection. Anyone want to explain why they call it iPod instead of Music on the iPad?

On a side note, it bothers me that when playing a song the controls are split between the top and bottom of the screen. This doesn't matter on a small screen (ipod Touch) but will prove very innefficient on the iPad's big screen.

The iPod Touch is an iPod which you can use to play music(app #1) and videos(app #2). It would be strange to use an iPod(app) on your iPod.
The iPad and iPhone are different devices.

The iPod has a couple different apps within it(Music, Videos) and the iPhone and iPad have the iPod app within them. The iPod app in the iPad looks almost like iTunes on your computer from the screenshots on Apple's website

I've been looking at each app as it is shown on the iPad Features page at Apple.

The iPad has dedicated, seperate Video and Photo apps. Then it has an iPod app that only leads to Music. Does the word "iPod" mean "music" to all of you? Lately all iPods except the shuffle are capable of music, photos, and video. The iTunes app is NOT the music player. It simply opens up the iTunes store. Is music on your macbooks called "iPod"?

The iPhone is a phone first, with an iPod icon to lead you to your media content. Photos is a seperate app there, mainly because with a camera the iPhone's photo content is partly self-generated.

I guess the point of my thread is that "iPod" as such is loosing identity within Apple's products, and calling the music app "iPod" instead of "music" appears (to me) to be a sad token homage to products of old. It's almost as if they are assuming users won't go looking for music on the iPad. From THIS PAGE it looks like they are using "iPod" to mean a broader music experience. To me it's a confusing message.

I don't mind iPod - but they already have iPod under the iPhone which contains those things and video, so its just uniformity.

I think you're over analyzing this.

There's videos, photos, and then all the iPod functions that aren't limited to music (audiobooks, podcasts, iTunes U, etc.) so it's called iPod, much more iconic and familiar than audio.

Not sure how I feel about a different video app.

As long as they are calling it "iPod," I wish they would have included Videos in it, like on the iPhone. I find it annoying that Music and Videos are separated on the iPod touch, as I often think of a video/movie I want to see while listening to my music, or vice versa, and I like that on the iPhone, I'm able to switch between music and videos without switching apps.

Does any of this matter at all? Some of you guys are going wacky. I can't wait for the iPad to be released so these threads will fade away into obscurity.
