My Lightroom image files are kept on an External Hard Drive. I'm not certain but I don't think I placed them there from Lightroom 4 they were probably loaded directly onto the external drive. Lightroom references the images no problem but I recently purchased Photoshop Elements and I can't open it fully from within Lightroom - Elements can't find the image.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a simple way of solving this confusing problem.

Setup Elements as a plugin. From LR you can send the image to Elements, or any other plugin. When the work is completed the edited image should come back to your LR library.
