I just found this at Maccentral.com... http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0202/24.photoshop.php

The final paragraph is as follows...

Compatible with Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X, Photoshop 7.0 will ship in the second quarter of 2002 in the United States and Canada, with an estimated street price is US$609. Registered users of earlier versions of Photoshop can upgrade to version 7.0 for $149. Upgrades from Adobe Photoshop Elements and Photoshop LE are available directly from Adobe for $499. For information about other language versions, as well as pricing, upgrade and support policies for other countries, Adobe recommends visiting their Web site.

Nice to see that it is finally available... Now to actually get and use it, that is the key.

I've stopped going directly to Macworld's web site for some time now. They ticked me off with subscriptions more then a few times. The most common issue is paying extra to get the cd's and having them trashed in the mail. They don't even care enough to spend an extra cent or two for a protecting sleve for the cd. You pay good money to get a magazine every month, and they send you coasters because the cd gets scratched to hell and back again during shipping. At least MacAddict cares enough to send the cd's protected (they even print stuff on the sleve). Macworld also charges extra for the cd, where MacAddict doesn't.

I usually use the links provided by VersionTracker and then read them. Either way, at least the big wait is almost over...

Sweet price... I hate paying full price if I can avoid it :D... I might even see if I can purchase a copy through the company I work for... so that I don't even have to pay that much.

I will need it for doing my scanning and such, since I would rather do it via a plug in then stand alone app.

Second Quarter?!?!?

Am I the only one who is a bit let down?

Shipping in second quarter could mean that it doesn't ship until June! Come on, give us a bit more of a concrete date. If it's going to ship in April, May, or June, then just tell us that month. But it sucks thinking it'll be here in April... then ok, it'll be here in May.... Then, crap, I guess it's June. And if Adobe is anything like Apple, they'll start taking orders on the last day of june, and actually start shipping the end of July.

Anyway, it's cool that it's announced. But, they clearly had to say something to save face.

According to the Apple store it will ship in April.

Does anyone have any info if I can buy it for the upgrade price since I already own Photoshop 5 LE?

according to apple, "multiprocessor G4 recommended". great, this means you need to have a dual 1ghz for it to work like we expect it to?

Upgrading from an LE version is listed at $499 direct from Adobe.

With the April ship date, it's not all that far off. I bet that they will be getting flooded with orders pretty soon.

I've never had any crashes in PS...even running it on a 233 mhz G3 its still useable, just takes long to run filters. the only problems I've had are some issues while batching, and thats seems only to be because something was wrong with my video card

do them mention in the reviews is PS7 will use non-carbonized filters? it would be a huge pain if my KPT stuff didnt work >_<

Maybe not that soon, Adobe is accepting email addresses to notify you when they will be taking pre-orders. So it will be a while.

Of course...

Of course Apple says that a DP is recommended. They want to sell more of them.

But Adobe says the following for system requirements:

PowerPC® processor (G3, G4, or G4 dual)

Wonder if the Photoshop spec will mention G5 support ?

Probably not. Just wishful thinking... Probably not. Just wishful thinking...

I have been unable to get any classic filters to work in PS7 while in OSx. works fine in OS9. I dont use KPT though, im a eyecandy and xenofex kidna guy. but after installing them into the plugins folder it will use them in OS9 but it wnt even appear in the list in OSX.

Anyone get these to work somehow?

Photoshop 7 runs really smooth

I have been using photoshop 7 for OS X for over three months now. It is the beta version 043 (liquid dream). It runs flawlessly on my G4 400 w/832mb ram, although I only have allocated about 256mb to photoshop (You can allocate ram for photoshop in the OS X version under its pref. settings). This beta is fully functional and has yet to crash on me, and I have used it well over a hundred times. Also installed it on my moms iMac 400. Runs just as well except for the filters and other things that may be altivec optimized. I would highly recommend the $149 update from version 5 or 6. PS 7 is by far the best photoshop yet.

Which build is final?

Anybody have any insight as to which build is the latest beta? Anybody know if it is slated for GM yet?

i dont think weve hit Gold master yet. ive played with b43 b51 and b54. All like bond2 said feel finished. Pretty nice and damn fast. I heard adobe wanted real time filtering before they got it finished. so i would make a wild guess and say they are concentrating on making each build faster. if they are planning on shipping in april then i wouldnt be surprised if they didnt go GM until several weeks before. But i dont know how adobe does its development. Apple often doesnt go GM until the week before.

I havent heard much since b54 though... who knows, im sure we will all keep our ear to the railroad track.
