I have been troubleshooting Photoshop CS6 in Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.5 through Skype, and we believe we've found a major help to anyone experiencing freezing or unresponsive controls in PS CS6 under Mavericks 10.9.5! In almost all instances (over 90% of the time) we have been able to freeze CS6 using the following:

Any dialog box
The desktop (Finder or another application)

How we freeze PS in under 15 seconds:
Open Photoshop CS6.
Open any dialog box such as 'Preferences-General', 'Help-System Info' or 'Filters-Gausian Blur'.
With the dialog window on top, move focus to another application or just click on the desktop by the PS window.
Now click on either the workspace, PS window title bar, or the dialog window.
Photoshop is now frozen.

MacBook Pro 15" Retina
OS X - Mavericks 10.9.5
2.2Ghz Intel Core i7
(2x8) 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
70 GB free / 499.42

The following image shows the results of 13 tests. Green circles mark the actions that were performed successfully. While some sets seem to yield similar results, the most prominent cause of freeze is any open dialog window, and moving focus to the desktop. Neither the OS nor PS have been updated since 2012, and the issue only started last year (2016). Reinstalling is not an option as the packaging is in storage in another city.
