ok, i have been eyeing photoshop cs4 for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. no seriously.

ive played around with cs3, very good.

layers are fun...

but now time for my question!

I think i can buy cs4 education for like £150!!!! in apple store

can i upgrade cs4 educational to lets say cs5 full version or cs4 when i am ready and when cs5 comes out,

Can i upgrade education version to a proper version?

but not pay for a new £600 license as the upgrade...



i hope you can understand it...

because i want to use photoshop to earn money aswell but i cant afford to pay for the expensive licence, but i need it to make money but educational version makes it so i cant make profit out of it! gahh!!!



then again is aperture comparable to photoshop?

They are NOT comparable.

Photoshop is an image manipulator, aperture is an image handler.

That is how I look at it at least.

and sorry, I am not too sure how the licensing works out.

However, I think I remember hearing someone talk about "Educational Version" vs "Student" version, and how with one of them you can upgrade to the whole shebang for relatively cheap. Or something.

But don't listen to me, I don't know.

Yes, yes, and no.

Yes, you can buy Student/EDU version, if you qualify, from the Apple Store, on-line or in-store. And yes you can upgrade Student/EDU products to Full versions. No, you can't avoid paying the full price for the full version.

Think of it as a tool of the trade, just like your hardware. Most EDU-licensed software is done this way, and it is expected that when you make the transition from student to practitioner, you will pay the difference since you can then, in theory a) make money with it, and b) write it off as an expense - it is a tool just like any other.

From the title I thought this was going to be about gay design artist using Photoshop.

You need the full version.
As it is a business expense you can deduct it (as well as the % of the computer you use for work).

If you can't afford the full license, and you qualify for educational pricing, get the educational version. Educational and Student are the same thing.

Then save up money and get the regular license when you can, and I would again say that you need to keep track of your expenditures so you can write them off on income taxes.

so what i can understand, if i pay £150 for edu pricing, to make it full licence i have to pay £450 to make it full? if full price is £600

Oh yeah, i have one more question, can i buy cs3 full version for really cheap somewhere? or buy cs4 really cheap when cs5 comes out, as clearance/end of line sale? at apple store... or something

is it safe to buy on ebay? i see "new/unsealed/genuine OEMs" for education or a little bit more pricing, they dont say it is education... trust worthy?

Any other software i could use? something cheaper but comparable?
I have GIMP but you know... its a bit buggy on my windows machine and i dont know how to use it as well as photoshop. (photoshop is so clean...!)

No, you may get a break on the price for older versions, but the upgrade to the current version costs more. Same formula as yours - you pay $20 less for an older version, but you pay $20 more for the upgrade.

No, those are pirated. Only buy Adobe products from a reputable reseller.

Have a look at PhotoLineL32 for a lower-cost (€59) alternative.

Save some money and get the Design/Web Premium. This way you can use Photoshop Extended and Illustrator. £239-280.


Or just get the PS CS4. If you saved £0.40 a day for one year, It could be yours. £0.65 a day for CS4 Design/Web Premium.
