Does anyone know a remedy for my following problem?

I am trying to use the move tool to move a layer near the edge of my window. The problem is that whenever the image in the layer gets near the window edge it jumps all the way to the edge. This is not what I am trying to accomplish. I would like a slight gap between the image and window edge. What can I do to move an image freely and not have to deal with this jump to the window edge?

Just for clarification I am using Photoshop CS2.

In the Windows CS2 I zoom way in to do something like that.

See if that will work. (I'm still using PS7 on the Macs)

Hold down "CTRL" as you drag

If I'm understanding you correctly, try holding down "CTRL" (yes that's control, NOT command) as you move the image near the window edge. This will temporarily remove the snapping feature Photoshop has. Let me know if that worked.

Hold down control while using the move tool (and others like the crop tool) turns off the edge snapping for as long as control is held down.

Edit: Ahh, beaten to the punch.
