Photoshop to Illustrator Help *NOOB ALERT*

Hey Guys,

I have a photoshop image mostly consisting of mostly text. When I raise the resolution the text gets blurry. My brother told me that illustrator, since it uses vector graphics wont blur the picture if I make it bigger. I am very new to photoshop and illustrator. How do I transfer my .PSD document in to illustrator so that I can "vectorize" it. I tried just opening the file in illustrator but that doesnt have any effect(just as I thought), can anyone explain to me in SIMPLE terms how I can put my document in to Illustrator and make it so it doesnt blur when I increase it in size.

I am kinda desperate.

Redo the whole thing in illustrator. You can't really turn a bitmap file into a vector file. There is a way of doing it, but it won't come out clean. As you said it's mostly text, so it's best to start from scratch in illustrator.

About the size of a business card, well it is a business card, around 8cmX4.5 cm

Maybe, it depends on the source material :/

What happened with the Photoshop file, did you convert your text layers to rasters or something? Normally, text is one thing that should scale up smoothly.

What is the one way?

Live Trace. Place (or open) the PS file in Illustrator, select it, and pick Object->Live Trace->Tracing Options…

Check the preview box, twiddle the settings until you're happy with what you see, and whack the Trace button. (You'll notice pretty quickly that preview can take time, you can always flip it on and off.)

Then, Object->Live Trace->Expand to unlock the pieces if you need to touch it up.

I cant understand why it should be blurry at that size.

Make sure your original document is 300 ppi when you start.

I quite often use text in Photoshop for A3 output and sharpness is never an issue.
