Hi, what is the best book to start coding some php for a programmer that already knows C, Ruby, Python and Java?

TIA

I have actually purchased 2 of Larry Ullman's books to help me with PHP, according to many, he is highly recommended. Spent about 64 USD on his books from Amazon.

is a really great book. It's now in it's 3rd edition.

I built this dating site from reading his book.

Visit sitepoint.com for more info about the book.

Good luck.

Kris.

Thanks everyone. I already read the php tutorials from the wc3 schools and I found out php to be quite horrid (had some contact with rails before). Anyway I saw this framework which allows me to map URLs to functions inside a php file. The fact is I don't really understand how that magic works that's why I want to learn php more deeply before using it.

Hi Kris, your site is like what I've been wanting to create as well, a fun way to explore web development on the LAMP platform (in contrast my office projects are all ASP.NET). What development tools are you using, in particular the IDE? Thanks.
