Picture and picture YouTube web browser

I know the YouTube app does not support picture and picture but safari was working fine until today. Did something change?

It still works on iPadOS Safari, so yes it make sense requires desktop site request on iPhones (I don’t have current gen iPhone)

I wonder how do they manage to disable a core functionality in iOS. It is a media on a website after all and that is the requirement for picture-in-picture.
