Not sure whether this should be here or in an iOS thread but it started happening sometime in the last year and it hasn't mattered with iOS 17 or 18.
I have been using Windows' camera import wizard since 2009 and iPhone 3GS without a hitch until sometime in the last year it pulls in pictures and videos with the wrong filename and from way way back further than the last time an import was done. The way this works on Windows is that there is a database file for each device you import from and so that it can remember what you have and haven't imported yet.
What I have figured out is the root of the problem is that pictures and videos on the iPhone have started being changed arbitrarily. This is happening with all 4 phones in my household. I can manually copy a folder corresponding to a month from the phone to computer, wait a day, and copy it again, and a lot of the file names have changed. Meaning today if a picture is IMG_2699.JPG days from now that same picture might be IMG_2645.JPG. Also I'm getting files copied to the computer that have the .JPG extension yet they are videos and show as corrupt until I realize I need to manually rename them to a .MOV. Has anyone else noticed this?
