Picture Viewer

Hi

I'm looking for an application that acts the same way as windows picture and fax viewer. i.e. you click on a jpeg file in a folder with loads of other jpeg files amd you can scroll through them.

p.s. I know I could use iPhoto, but some pictures i.e. webgraphics etc I don't really want to add to my iphoto library.

It's been awhile since I've used Windows, but I think Mac OS X's very own Preview application should do the trick.

Just command+option drag a folder of images onto Preview's icon (or you can just open Preview, select open from the file menu, navigate to the image folder you want and click open), and it will open up with the first image in the folder in the main viewer and pop open a drawer on the side with the thumbnail images from all images in the the folder.

You can click an image from the thumbnail drawer and it will show in the main viewer, or you can forward/backward navigate through all the folder images in the main viewer using the up/down arrow icons (you might have to add those to the toolbar, they're not in the default set for images) or use command+left/right arrow.

Sorry, I should have mentioned this, I use preview at the moment as that is the default for opening pictures.
I thought there could be an application that possibly would load all the pictures in the file without having to select them all, and possibly had controls like apples slideshows i.e. transulent black bar or similar?

Well, Preview does this. As I mentioned earlier, either command option drag the folder and drop it on Preview's icon (or select only the folder from Preview's open file dialog) and all the images in the folder will automatically open in Preview. You don't have to select all of the individual pics inside the folder.

Once you've done that, you can use Preview's built-in slideshow feature, available from view menu or shift command-f
