Pictures being received as Text Message instead of iMessage. Why?

I have noticed that while receiving picture messages from my sister (we are both using iphone 4's with ios 5) they are being sent as Text Messages. All our other plain text messages are being sent via iMessage. Whether I'm on 3g or wifi it still sends to me as Text Message. Anyone know why this is happening?

It's probably due to her phone and data connection.

Have you checked to see if both phones have MMS Messaging turned on?

A lot of my pictures are failing to get sent and since I have the feature to send as SMS turned off, it doesn't send them as a text. I think that's what's happening with you. The pictures fail to get sent using iMessage and then get sent as a text.
