Pictures on I pad inquiry

I'm anticipating my Ipad later this week, and was curious what I need to do to be able to view my photos in the organized fashion I see on the demos I've played with at the Apple Store? For example, you'll see separate folders titled Summer photos, Trip to Rome, etc. Do you have to create these sub folders in Iphoto prior to syncing? As of now, if I synced it I imagine I would see thousands of pictures all lumped together.

The "GoodReader" app is actually really good for creating folders & subfolders, password protecting any folders you want, and also lets you view your photos in higher resolution than the iPad's native photo stuff.

To create folders with the iPad's native photo stuff, just set up the folders on your computer side and then select the parent folder as the folder to sync. I think it can only let you go 1-folder deep though (so you can't have more subfolders like with Goodreader).

If they are all pictures off your iphone and you had geotagging enabled they should look like the Apple presentation but for the vast majority they will all be lumped into one folder. It's really rather disappointing, would be nice if you could organize and arrange the pictures how you wanted on the ipad but you cant even delete the photos you dont want let alone rearrange them LOL It's really a poor platform for photo management IMO. Hopefully they make it better because it's pretty much about as useless as one of those digital photo frames you buy for 50 bucks at this point.

Do you have to create these sub folders in Iphoto prior to syncing?

Yes. You can pick and choose albums/events/people etc. from within iTunes on the Photos tab when your iPad is connected, but they have to be sorted in iPhoto (or Aperture) first.

Once you have your photos organized, they are so neat to mess around with.
