So Calif
Any pilots here ?

Looking for an iPad to run a subscription based pilot navigation and flight planning device.
I am a new student pilot and the basic software is all I need.

Foreflight's suggestions are old (last year) so I wanted to know which current / recent iPad, iPad Air or iPad Mini with cellular would be good ?

Foreflight's old list:

Not a pilot, but all of those iPads still exist in newer updated versions, so the advice still holds. The iPad Pros are still the fastest iPads with the best screens.

Would it be good to wait to see next week what iPads are rolling out ?

Don't wait. Fly!
Oh yes, waiting for nicer weather as I train under VFR (visual flight rules).

I am so new to flying that even a 10kt wind & 3000' cloud ceilings exceeds my "personal minimums".

When I get to solo level, I am sure I'll change my minimums for higher wind tolerance as well as being comfortable flying under 3000'.

Licensed pilot. I would stay away from the big iPad Pro as it is too big in the cockpit. I also recommend getting the WiFi/Cellular models as they include GPS. The WiFi only models do not include GPS. You can get an external GPS receiver but it is just another piece of equipment to manage.

Also get more than the minimum memory in any model you decide on.

Just my opinion.

The Mini seems to be a popular choice among pilots, that just got updated so no need to wait for another refresh because I doubt one would be coming for years, for someone in your position I’d opt for the cellular version as it has GPS, something the WiFi only iPads lack.
