Question: is it normal for iPhone 12 with iOS 16 to request the PIN (access code or whatever the naming is) from me several times a day (closer to 10 than 3, but I've never actually counted) despite Face ID obviously being on? It's a little irritating having to type this thing in all the time.

No, it seems to be requesting PIN out of random. Do you guys experience this too? I was thinking it's simply a security feature but I'm not quite sure. Like with Wallet, it occasionally requires a PIN without attempting to scan your face at all.

Ok, so can someone please tell me whether they ever have to input their PIN with FaceID enabled to unlock their phones? Because it's starting to really piss me off when I have to do it about 10 times a day, like in the bad old pre-fingerprint days. It looks like it's some added security script, but I'll never be sure without community feedback.

It’s happened to me on occasion. Not 10 times a day, but it’s happened a few times.

Ok, thanks. Anyone else? I seriously don't know what the hell is wrong with my brand new iP 12 then. I can't find any pattern. Also, on certain occasions Apple Wallet requires a PIN code also (nothing to do with face readability, it's not even attempting to scan it).

A serious first-world problem here.

It happens to me occasionally (maybe once or twice a week) on my 4th gen iPad pro, but almost never on my iPhone 14 pro (except after a power on or reboot, obviously). After reading BugeyeSTI's comment, I may try re-scanning my face on the iPad to see if I can make it as reliable as the phone.

I forgot to mention just in case it isn't clear - when requiring PIN, my iPhone says "Code is required to activate Face ID" (or something along those lines - I don't have my phone set to English). It seems like it's a script to enhance security, but it feels a tad too frequent.
