Pinning Documents to Homescreen

Is there a way to pin documents to a homescreen on my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Gen iOS 12? When I was using my Android Samsung Galaxy tablet, I was able to pin a document (pdf, ppt, word etc...) to my homescreen for easy and immediate access.
I do ppt presentations with potential and existing clients. I use Document by Readdle and it works fine but I have to go into the app, find my document, select which app to use with my doc, open that app and begin. I know doing that is not life threatening or super time consuming but it's a lot of unnecessary steps. With my document pinned to my business homescreen (I had a seperate screen for all my business related apps), I just tapped on the document icon and voila it was open ready to use.

Just one more reason why an iPad won’t replace my laptop. Not having the freedom to really manage your own home screen/desktop can be annoying.

I don’t have a solution for this either. When I need quick access to certain files I’d often use the build-in search to quickly find the file and open it in the app that’s supposed to open it.
I do a similar thing on macOS too, use the search to look for the document or app I need, hit return, done. ( well, if it works, of course)

You can pin stuff to homescreen for example in safari you can create links to appear on homescreen. It however is responsibility of app developers to enable the feature. I agree though it should be easier to do this if you so want. This however, creates issues such as cluttered desktops, and the need for screen management tools. The file system as it stands creates a neat tidier way of doing this as is annoying on a mac having to persistently organise your homescren.

This seems like something that the Shortcuts (previously known as Workflow) app should be able to do but I woudn't know for sure since all of the articles I've read about it recently seem to herald it as being unlimited in capability but then highlight just a few limited examples. I suspect there's a lot of potential in Shortcuts that is either untapped or yet to be opened up. Hopefully there's a method to do simple stuff like this using it that I just haven't discovered yet. As it stands I'm clueless where to get started on it.
