I put one of these drives in an external usb 2.0 enclosure and system profiler won't even show it as existing. I've tried various jumper settings but no luck.

how can i get this to be supported through osx? firmware flash or something?

it is not the drive unless it is DOA. have you tested just the drive with anything else, do you know it actually works?

next check would be jumpers -- needs to be set as master to work in an enclosure, not cable select. last check would be the enclosure. some work with Mac, some don't. check to see if it lists X on the box or spec sheet, or online, etc. last chance long shot would be trying a different usb cable and/or a different usb port. don't connect to a hub, but to the computer.

just a fyi, but unless you use an 80 connector ide cable (inside the enclosure), the drive will write at a lower speed.

best of luck.

Ok so i took the drive out and put it straight into my old B&W G3 Tower. Works fine!

i then tried an old working HD in the usb enclosure and it did nothing.

Gonna get a new usb enclosure and see how i go.

Yeah, I've had external cases work with some drives and not with others.
