I still don't have PiP - also on Premium.

Can you see the Picture-in-picture setting in the YouTube app?

Can someone connect via VPN to another country to test whether it still works?

It could also be based on the YouTube Premium subscription country.

yes I can see the setting

and VPN doesn't matter

Seems it's being gradually pushed out to Premium users

There’s a new setting on my YouTube app, is it only for premium? If it work without I’ll cancel my premium I only wanted it for background playback

Well, that’s the thing. It “should” work without the premium… given it’s a feature within iOS, it shouldn’t be behind a paywall.

However, YouTube is such a popular app… Apple will work with them on implementing such a feature for their premium subscribers. And the fact it’s a server side update, Apple has no way of policing it.

Forget about the YouTube app. I realized yesterday at night that PiP works on iPhone when using the YouTube website... but you have to use the desktop view. No Premium. Europe.

What the hell, it was working for me yesterday now it’s gone and the setting is gone, in the U.K. on premium

Same for me... Today it's gone without any notice
This my problem with how YT plans to implement it… it’s server side. It can be taken away in a moments notice.

And on top of that… they announce that free users will be able to use PiP too, then.. what’s the point of being a premium user. I rather for them not to implement PiP at all… if they are vague about us using it.
