Pismo problems

A friend of mine has a Pismo he'd like to salvage (though that's seeming unlikely at the moment). Basically, it seemed like his logic board had been fried (my assumption as well, but someone with a lot more knowledge of G3 era notebooks had diagnosed it that way as well). So he replaced the logic board, tried to boot, and noting happened, at the end of which there was scoring on the lower edge of the hard drive ribbon. Has this happened to anyone, or anyone have experience with this? As far as we can tell, there was no external damage to the processor daughter or the logic board, though I realize that means little...

He's resigned to scrapping it and trying to sell it for parts at this point, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

you said that there was something wrong with HDD ribbon? I'd try replacing that.

Even without a HDD it should still chime and attempt to boot (I know my Lombard did)

Have you tried replacing the PRAM battery? I'd also recommend looking for a new daughtercard because when the logic board fried, it could have taken the processor with it.

I thought of the daughter card, but that would suck, as it had a processor upgrade on it which would likely have fried as well. I'd be happy to get you in touch with him if he decides to sell; in the meantime, any idea where he could get a replacement ribbon?

And yeah, I told him as well, it should have at least chimed, which it didn't...

yeah my guess is that if it isn't even chiming it's probably a processor issue, especially if the logic board has been replaced.

That would make sense, though I still hope not. I think the old board would chime, so I'm hoping that either the new board was faulty as well (just in a different way) or that it was fried when he plugged it in. Either way, I think he's just going to salvage the hd and dump it, but I'm not sure yet (I tried to explain to him that it was pretty pointless to have it repaired, as you'd spend close to as much as a newer refurb would cost). PM me your email addy and I'll pass it on to him in case he decides to part it out (I think he'd probably just keep the HD and the airport card)...
