They have an internal wireless slot and antenna system which you can fill with an Apple Airport 802.11b card.

It goes under the keyboard.

is there a cheaper alternative? those apple branded cards still run quite a bit of money.

When I had my Pismo I used a D-Link DWL-G650X. It worked well. It works in Tiger as well. Not sure if they sell them anymore but amazon has them in the used section: Link

There may be others out there as well.

Edit: Post 500. Only took me 4 years to get there.... YES!

Get An Original Airport Card - You Won't Regret It!

Yes, while it's possible to use the Buffalo and certain Belkin wireless cards
(which work natively with apple drivers with their Broadcom chipsets), consider this:

I put two Pismo's side by side. one with an Airport card, and the other with a Belkin
card in the Cardbuss slot. Using iStumbler's signal gauge, one Pismo was at 95%
while the other was around 10%. Can you guess which was which?
The airport card makes use of the built-in antennae which goes around the circumference
of the display lid. Last I checked, you could get an original Airport card off E-bay
for $50 - $55 (plus shipping). Get an Airport card!!

is there a noticeable difference between the b and g standard when it comes to web surfing and downloading small files?, thats all i need to do at school anyways.

P.S. 89 dollars is a lot of money if youre a college student on financial aid. but im willing to spend it if thats what it takes.

thanks for the help.

As I posted above, original Airport cards on E-bay go for $50 - 55.
Check the Completed Items listings and see for yourself
(and then buy one).
