hi all I’m thinking of getting an android phone to play around this Black Friday. Gs9 is $525 unlock on samsung website and pixel 3 is going to be $650 on google. Which one should I get?

OP, I understand that when you can’t see a light at the end of the tunnel, it can be really hard. But you don’t have to taint your hands with an Android phone.

Remember you still have a lot to live for.
Hug your child, go for a picnic, or watch a sunset.

It’s never as bad as you think. There are a lot of people who care about you. Open up about how you feel. Talk to them.

Avoid the GS9 and get the GS9+ if you want the best experience.

If you are literally just wanting to play around with Android though and get to grips with its basics, then maybe rather get the Pixel 3, I'm guessing in both cases you are looking at the standard versions of the phone's and not the bigger versions.

I always tell people that if they want to get a feel for Android in general they're better off getting a device like the Pixel (or Nexus previously, or even a Motorola previously) as they provide the most similar update experience to what you're used to with iOS. The OP is on the right track, the other thing people do is grab a super cheap device which will give a less then optimal experience and skews their opinion.

Galaxy has better hardware while Pixel has better software. Software can improve over time but hardware is permanent. Up to you to decide what's more important.

I would go with the pixel, but either is a great option. The S9 at that price is probably the better value though.

Either or are decent options. I prefer the Pixel as I'm not a fan of Samsung's curved screen on the Galaxy.

If you are going to play around with Android, look into a 2nd hand flagship phone, or a brandnew Android One device. Both of those will be cheaper than the Pixel 3, or S9.
