Looking to buy either Pixelmator Pro or Affinity Photo for some photo editing. What do you guys recommend? Pixel is $20 and Photo is $38. Both great products.

Basically I want to touch up and edit photos. I use GIMP most the time but these deals are way too good to pass up. Nothing heavily detailed just some palette changes and fixing of issues.

Buy both. They are both excellent. I am not a photo retouching professional, but I think Affinity Photo is more typical of high end work like Photoshop. But Pixelmator Pro is no slouch.
Ugh why did you say that?! I’ve been thinking the same thing. Bye bye $60 from account 😂

Both of them have excellent training videos on their websites too. And if you really like the Affinity apps they have excellent hardcover books that offer instruction, reminiscent of the Adobe workbook series.

They don't do exactly the same thing. it can be useful to have each for the different features. It's not much money over the time you will use them and for the benefits. They are cheap compared to Photoshop or others.

  • Affinity Photo has a broad range of features and is good for creating composite image from multiple layers and affects.
  • I use Pixelmator mainly to do quick edits of single images for specific features like some of the ML features.

I have only Pixelmator Pro and I find it not very intuitive compared to the Classic version I had before. Maybe it's because I use it very rarely.

Given that you are a GIMP user, you will find the Pixelmator Pro easier to learn. Affinity Photo has a very different workflow which can be confusing at first.
I have both. Affinity Photo does things like focus stacking, panorama stitching that PMP does not.
That is my usage too. Pixelmator Pro for photo edits, Affinity for its special capabilities.

I'm the opposite, Affinity Photo is clearer to me and I always have to twist my mind around how PMP does things. A lot of it is what other apps you've used. I used Photoshop before and Affinity is much closer to haw Photoshop works.
