I can't decide on which to get. I do graphic design work from designing print related materials and also do photo compositing and touchups. I've tried to look online to see what the difference is. The only thing I heard or know is that the Pro version is supposed to replace Pixelmator or be the successor.

I can't offer much beyond the Pro app was represented as a new app "rewrite" and with additional features. What I can do for you is muddy the waters a bot - I got the email from them a couple of days ago - the Pro app is discounted from $60 to $30 "for a limited time", I think there's a thread in one of the MR News forums about this.

I purchased Pixelmator some time ago, but much prefer Affinity Photo. I also use PS, hardly use Pixelmator. My GF is a graphics/video nut, she bought Pixelmator Pro but deleted it after a few weeks, opting to go back to PS and Affinity Photo...

Neither of those apps is suitable for print work, as neither of them support a CMYK or Pantone workflow.

I own both, Pixelmator feels much more flexible for a variety of working projects, whereas Pixelmator Pro I feel is only geared towards photography and it's not as intuitive.

I think the vast majority of people feel the same as you. Pixelmator, in my opinion, has jumped the shark.
