iPhone Pkg Backup or Apt Backup

Which one is the best and easiest to use? And what's the pros and cons on both. Any help would be great

Haven't used either in a long time. And then they both sucked. (don't know if they are better now)

What I do, is run this command in the terminal on your phone (either via the mobile terminal app or via SSH)

dpkg --get-selections > selected-packages.txt

now I use iFile to send my self that txt file

After a restore you can do one of either:

1. send the text file back to your phone and run this command

dpkg --set-selections < selected-packages.txt

2. or you can view the list on your computer and only install the packages you want (hey you can even edit the list on your computer before you send it to your phone)


Be ware, if you have an iPhone 4 or older, and want to install packages by hand, I recommend installing a few at the time, as last time I did that it crashed a lot of times. I don't know if it still does, but iP4S, iPad2 and iPad3 has not done this for me.

I've long used PkgBackup. I do not recommend relying on the Dropbox integration; I've had problems with it in the past. If you use it, you should also periodically email your backup to yourself.

Interesting. There was an update to PkgBackup overnight and now even though I have backups listed on Dropbox it would let me use them, saying no backup exists. Hoping Jibril has a fix for this soon as the Dropbox has worked well for me in the past.

Personally, I still use the backup to contacts method. I've never had that fail. I also email the backup to myself.
