Hiya,

I'm planning on getting a 3GS since my current US Cellular contract ends on the 25th and I'd like to port my number, and the scheduled Apple event is supposed to be happen around 26th-27th or so I hear. If, and I underline the big IF, Apple releases a rumored 4g (or some major update), will they support the old gen for new gen exchange? I'm meaning the same kind of exchange they do with Macs, when you get an old one within 30 days before a new release they will allow you to upgrade for free (or pay the difference)?

Thanks,

apparently you havnt been told that this is just a media event, and the only thing we can expect soon is the iphone 3gs 8gb, and the apple tablet. the next iphone isnt coming out till june.

There are a variety of opinions on what will actually happen at the next event. It's hard to imagine that they will do any iPhone update before the summer, besides the possible iPhone 3GS 8GB. My personal thought is that is about 50/50 given the Droid/Nexus One buzz has dwindled down, more thoughts on that here.

Well apparently I haven't, but you never know what exactly they will release.

Apparently, you haven't been told you know nothing more than anyone else.

OP, probably too early for Apple to release the next generation iPhone. They traditionally release every June/July. I would expect to hear about iPhone OS 4.0 which will certainly run on older model iPhones (although the 1st generations may get left behind).

food for thought...

any likelihood that a 64Gb 3GS may be announced at this event?

Or is that just wishful thinking?

Just out of curiosity though, does Apple normally offer exchanges around the generation-change like for their other gear??

I will stake my professional reputation on the fact that the next iPhone model will not arrive before June 1. Unless you'd like to use Skype on the tablet then nothing will change for you in January.
