plastic edge on case

a few days ago, the plastic edge around the case started making a popping/crackling noise when pressure is applied to it... like it's not sitting right in it or something. it all looks fine, with no visible misalignment. it's very annoying when your typing and your laptop is making noises. is this common? i wondered how durable the plastic edges are over time.
