play DVD image with Apple TV

Hey guys,

I know it's not possible to play a dvd image right out of the box. But is it posisble to hack the unit to use VLC Player and play dvd images?

This will save me sooo much time and money as I burn like a 100 dvds a week

Check out the hacking community. I used the beginner's guide at the awkwardtv wiki and now I can mount DVD rips, shared volumes, watch divx/xvid files and much more.

Of course, this isn't Leopard compatible, and I would wonder what happens when AppleTV 2.0 comes out. Seems like the hack may not be worth it.

oh cool, thanks man. so it looks like im going to buy one then. or maybe i should wait until 2.0? i unno, im just happy that i can mount a dvd image and play it so i dont have to keep burning my dvd's.

hopefully the quality is good, im going to be using it via component on my 101 inch projector.
