Does any body know how to play game without disk? I mean the sounds from disk running is really annoying me, by the way, anybody play sims 3? i am use Macbook Pro 2010(i7), dunno why launching this game is slower than my (i5)laptop with 500GB(5400rmp), where my MBP is 7200rmp500GB, 4G RAM.:)

just google it. there are plenty of mob patch on the web. now, when I play mass effect 2, blur, assassin's creed, I don't need to put DVD anymore. it's great.

I don't know if this will work with OS X and the current games, but back in the days of OS 8.6 we used to make a disk image of the game disc (CD) using Disk Utility and then mount it when we played the game. Worked the same as having the disc in without the annoying noise.

i remember the disk image days, aoe, so me and my brother could play together!

Mounting a disk image actually works still for some games. I do this with Ys when I play it under CXG. I don't think you can do this with most modern games due to anti-piracy checks though.

Just curious are we talking Mac or PC games? I know a good site for PC games. Is there a good one for Mac games?

Going to hope you aren't asking for a site to pirate games. As you can get banned for that..........

thnx, :)i try to give up no dvd crack, coz most they r illegally.

Illegal? Pirating games is illegal. Patching a game you purchased to run on your computer without the DVD in the drive, is not pirating. You've asked how to play a game without the CD. If the developer designed the game to run only with the CD in the slot, then you will have to alter something to change that.

This thread is not about pirating games, it's about playing games you own without the CD in the computer.

Moderators: If my response is out of bounds for MacRumors, please send me a PM. And I'll resist talking about NO CD patches. Thanks! :)

Probably it is a little bit late but there are a lot of options for Mac gamers to play great quality games. Probably the one that it is the most interesting for me in this moment is steam for mac. the only downside that it is that there aren't so much AAA titles in the list because steam play is focusing that you don't have to buy your games twice that you do in other platforms so I think that mayor publishers don't like that idea. Also there are great games that you can get from popcap. If you want to get AAA titles you can get them from D2D (EA and Activision)

some games have option when you install to choose between online authorization and physical DVD authorization. when you choose DVD, then you need to put it everytime when you play a game. but when you choose online authorization, it is just like digitally installation. so you don't need DVD at all. for example, I have battlefield bad company 2, medal of honor(2010). these two games have that options. I chose online. so I don't need DVD at all.

Does that mean you need an online connection to start the game?

Most games have to have copy protection of one type or another. Most distributers will not carry a game unless there is some level of copy protection on it. Thus the publishers bend to their request and insist that the developers inject some level of copy protection. Either disk copy protection, online server verification, or something else; the demand often comes from the top and everyone below bends their knee.

HI, have anyone use any software that can create virtual disk so that we don't have to insert disk when play games

From my post #4 above:

The people that want to steal a game.. steal a game past the copy protection. It is mostly just a major annoyance to people trying to legally use the software.

Its like the old "Lets make guns illegal to have period and no one will get shot!" thing... criminals don't care about the laws, they will still have guns... it would make them even worse, since they know its much less likely someone they want to rob (or whatever) has a gun.

I agree with you 100%, it stops no one and just pisses off legit customers.

What I don't understand is how these other industries have not learned from the music industry. Back when CD's came out they were doing all they could to stop people from copying them, making MP3s (eventually), or recording to tape. It pissed people off. Then iTunes changed everything, with only $0.99 per song, it was reasonable and easy for people to get the music they wanted. The masses of the people purchased what they wanted, sure some people still steal, but most do not.

What the lesson here is, charge a REASONABLE amount and people will flock to you; don't always go for greatest profit per sale. Don't screw the end customer, period.

Movie industry, drop prices of movies on DVD over a year old to $4.99. New releases for $9.99. Watch sales soar! BluRay, old $9.99, new $14.99.

TV industry. TV series on DVD : $0.99 per episode for old shows, $1.49 for new. BluRay, $1.49 and $1.99 respectfully.

Gaming industry : $9.99 for old, $19.99 or $29.99 for new. A+ titles, $39.99 (Halo, WoW, etc...)

Downloadable versions should be available for ALL media.

I loooove Feral Interactive. They make excellent non-Cider ports and everything, and that's great.

But even though they don't charge for postage directly, it's a huge pain in the ass that I'm never able to play any of their game when I'm not at home, because they require the. Laptops nowadays are plenty fast for most games, so it's obvious that people are often playing games away from their desktop.

And I agree with CylonGlitch and doh123. Purchasing a game from Feral get you a less usuable product, that had you downloaded an illegal copy. It just make no sense.

I think I read on MR some time ago, that Feral was considering digital distribution. But of course, they wanted to roll their own, because the current handful of channels apparently isn't good enough. I simply don't understand, why they don't use Steam. Steam might take 15-20% in commission, but if their sales volume goes up 30%, it's certainly a good deal.

I, for one, am holding back on buying anything from Feral due to the disc-requirement and lack of digital distribution. And it's really sad, since they make excellent ports. But having to wait a week for your game makes for fewer impulsive purchases, especially when you know you receive an artificially limited product.

yes, it is. it is only for verification whether it is authentic or not. next time, you don't need DVD at all.

Online connection every time you want to start the game needed? Sorry should have asked this with the other question, but thought it might be auto answered.
