playing .asx files

Is there any way to play .asx files in OS X. They show up with a white screen in QT, no screen at all in VLC, and WMP9 just says it can't play them.
edit: and mplayer gives no video either -- none have audio

ASX files do not contain any video or audio content, they're just a text file pointing to an ASF content file. Having said that, Windows Media Player (yuck) should be able to follow the link.
