Here's the situation
In the next week or so I won't have access to a computer any longer, just my iPhone and the 2021 iPad Pro. I use Spotify for most of my music, but I have a pretty large CD collection on my hard drive (and backup drive -- which I'll still have access to). Some of these CDs aren't available on streaming services.

What I want to achieve:
I would like some place to store these files where I can either stream or download onto my phone and iPad (if downloading I'd be removing it and redownloading as needed).

I've ruled out Apple Music - their matching program only seems to match my music if it's in their catalog already. So if I upload something they don't have, I wasn't able to play it.

Currently I'm uploading everything to Vox Cloud - which should work, but Vox is a bit flakey and I'm not too sure about their long term viability. However it does seem to meet a lot of my needs -- can stream, can download central storage. It is a bit pricy considering I'm already paying for a streaming service. Biggest problem right now is their upload process isn't stable.

Any other options out there? I'm assuming I could get the files on an external drive and copy them to my iPad when I want to, but I don't think I can get them on the iPhone that way.

Match should work with music that is not in Apple’s catalog. It uploads whatever music they don’t have to the servers so you have access.

But iCloud should work as long as the music is in a format the iPhone can read. And you can play the music from the Files app.

I didn’t get that from Match. It’s what I expected, but it didn’t work out that way.
I’ll try again — maybe I did something wrong.

I set up a test with a few files and iCloud—files that aren’t part of Apple Music, so I’ll see how that goes. Didn’t know I could play straight from the files app.

thanks!
