I know the MBP isn't designed as a gaming machine, but from time to time I do like to play some mmorpg's. I don't care about being able to play at the highest settings, but somewhere in the middle would be nice. How well do games like WoW play on the current MPB? I know there is a refresh supposed to come out, but I figure if the current gen can play games reasonably well, then the new model shouldn't have any problems.

The 9400M and the 9600GT will suffice for game play from time to time.
I even played Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare on the 9400M once and it took while for me to recognise the difference on low to middle settings.

You can play pretty much every game (PC & Mac) on medium settings. On the Mac side (not Bootcamp gaming) I use one as my main machine and it runs everything we have published with medium to high settings. My 15" is the 512MB version so I don't know if the 256 version is a lot slower or not.

I've got a 15" MBP with a 256MB 9600 and have been really pleasantly surprised by its gaming performance (Win 7 x64 Bootcamp). I'm running the latest games (eg Batman: Arkham Asylum and Modern Warfare 2) on medium/high settings at decent resolutions. Even Crysis is perfectly playable, albeit with some bells and whistles turned off.

My only OSX gaming has been CoD4 and Spore on my 15" (512 mb vram), and they've run at reasonable speeds with medium settings. WoW should be totally fine. However, I do most of my gaming via Boot Camp, and everything in Vista (yeah, shut up) runs better (CoD4 runs pretty smoothly with higher settings, as does MW2. Dragon Age also performs very well).
I can't speak directly about mmorpgs, since I stay away from them for the same reason I stay away from heroin.

I consider my MBP to be a very capable gaming machine that has allowed me to play a wide variety of demanding games (Crysis, Witcher, DAO, WoW) and it's not even the latest version. See signature. Side note, my wife is playing Spore on your 1 year old+ Macbook without any issues.

They are all playable at medium to high settings. Bioshock rarely becomes choppy on medium settings. Quake 4 can be played perfectly with all settings on high. Call of Duty 4 runs well with a combination of medium and high settings.
