Playing Mkv with integrated subs without converting???

So I have the new Iphone 6 soon.

And I want to use it on the train to watch animé.
These will be downloaded in mkv format in 720p to 1080.
They will also have integrated subs.

And I'm looking for an app so I can drag the just to the app who can play those files without having to endless wait for conversion.

Any tips???

AVplayer HD is the way to go

I read that it works on ipad. But does it also work on iphone?

And what about subtitles that are embed in the mkv will they show up?

try HD Player. that renders stylized .ass subs (ones that anime sub-groups use).

EDIT: do note that if you try to play 10-bit 1080p anime it will lag. 720p plays fine though.

I just tested AV player HD and it seems to play 1080 perfectly fine
