Any informed opinions on Rift as compared to WoW?
Points in favor
1. Its new.
2. Better graphics (depends in you want more realistic or not)
3. More diverse classes (rogues can tank or heal depending on spec for example)
4. Rifts, adds new flavor to leveling as they can randomly appear
5. PvP seems better, but that is mostly because we are still in the anything goes stage
6. Developer feedback is strong in the forums
7. Interface is nearly identical to WOW, like actions bars and the like just with more customization and player friendly features.
Points against
1. No real choice in zones. In your faction you start out in, lets call it zone A. You then go to B, then C, then D, and so on. There really is no choice. Sure you can stay in one zone for far too long but that is pointless. Think of it as WOW where the only starting zones would be Orgimarr and Stormwind.
2. NPCs used cheap form of player animation (LOTRO syndrome as I call it) which means they move stiffly and don't use facial animations. Gives it that creepy doll like effect unlike WOW where all NPCs can do full range of motion players can including emotes
3. Rifts, yeah because they like to open RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW which can be annoying.
4. Rogues, specifically far too many of them exist and the name is meaningless as they can actually be Bards who heals or Rangers who shoot bows and have pets.
5. System requirements are far stiffer than WOW. Set lighting effects to four or less for most Macs
6. Crafting, yeah, like OK, whatever. Its there, but not great. Good for making ALTs stuff.
7. Interface is nearly a clone of WOW - as in, can't they be original for five seconds?
