I continue to have issue with playing video that I have taken with my iPhone 4 and playing through ATV2 to my TV? Airplay is on and I can view photos but not videos. The ads that I have seen for Airplay show the capability of watching video from the iPhone 4 to the TV via ATV2.

Please help??

You need to select the Apple TV. A small box with a triangle will appear when playing in the video app.

Not sure what to say, I've got several ATV2 devices plus my friends too. All work with AirPlay when I visit.

I recall it didn't once so I unplugged the ATV2 and when it restarted it showed up.

What kind of videos are you playing? Does Home Sharing need to be also enabled on the iPhone & ATV?

I should add - I've seen the option to stream video 'dropping' frequently, and sometimes it comes back at random. So sometimes I'll be watching a video and the Airplay popup gives me the option to stream video, at other times it only gives me the option to stream audio, and at other times the Airplay icon is missing. Usually toggling Airplay off & on, or turning the ATV off and on will fix it, temporarily.

IIRC, you can't play video that you shoot with your iPhone within the Photos app. Check out this post on Daring Fireball:

@ Blueroom, you mention the Video app, but what about videos in your Photos app?

@ OP, is this what you are trying to accomplish?

No longer applies--can't recall specific iOS version this changed (4.3 maybe?) but I use this feature all the time with video I've taken with my iPhone.

Home sharing does not need to be activated--don't have it enabled on my iPhone 4 and I can AirPlay video that I've taken using the phone to any of my :apple:TV 2s.

Are you viewing your videos using the Photo app or through the Camera app (selecting image in lower left corner of the camera screen)? AirPlay is only an available option when viewing through the Photo app, can't be used when examining the camera roll through the Camera app.

Iphone 4 won't airplay video to APTV2

I have the same issue or a very similar issue -
Verizon Iphone 4 - latest software 4.2.10 (8E600)
APTV2 - latest software 4.3 (2557)
I synch photos and video via IPhoto

No other device attempting airplay - iTunes on macbook air is closed.

Steps to reproduce: Tap on the photo icon, select a photo
The APTV sharing icon appears in the upper right corner to show that I can select it.
Select a video, the icon doesn't appear in the upper right hand corner - indicating no airplay available.
I have tried turning off blue tooth, then power cycling the phone in conjunction with unplugging the APTV2 and plugging it back in, turning off airplay and turning it back on. Nothing allows a video taken from or synched to the phone to play via airplay to my APTV2!

Clean and not working

I tried it tonight. Works fine with iOS 4.3.5 from the IPhone photo app.

I'm guessing by the IOS version that you have an ATT phone - not sure that it should matter..

Also - I have not even attempted a jailbreak...want something to 'just work' if at all possible.

I'm not familiar with the Verizon versions of iOS as I'm on AT&T but considering the ability to AirPlay video taken using the iPhone didn't become available until version 4.3 at least, it could very well not be yet activated on the Verizon version as you literally haven't yet been given 4.3.

Your problem is that you have the Verizon iPhone with iOS 4.2.10. Airplay does not work with the videos you make with the phone, just the photos. I have the same problem. Won't be fixed until iOS 5.0.

Possible I guess but an interesting add - YouTube via the built in app airplays just fine.

Yea it does work fine with youtube, but displaying home videos made with the Verizon iPhone via airplay is a known problem. It works with none verizon iPhones because it was updated in 4.3.0. Unfortunately, Verizon is stuck at 4.2.10.

Thx for the post - have stopped looking and am hoping IOS5 takes care of it. Anyone have the beta on an Verizon iPhone 4 to confirm that I will eventually have this drn feature?
