The iPhone seems surprising capable of handling many types of apps, including 3D applications such as Playstation emulation.

Instructions for the First Public Release of psx4iphone:
http://zodttd.com/forum/index.php?topic=154.0

Looks promising. But note, a few years ago, Sony has killed the Mac Playstation emulator, so I hope the developer is based outside of US.

EDIT:
As expected, some games are not supported yet with the first public release (more a Beta than final release).
The first PR of psx4iPhone, v 0.0.1.0, supports simultaneously up to 2 buttons right now,
but some games such as Resident Evil would need 3 concurrent button presses at the same time.

Found a nice YouTube video of Final Fantasy on iPhone. Frame counter seems to read around 30 frame per second. So not sure whether the stuttering is actual or introduced during video capturing / encoding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOlXMkL_Y4Q

Sony killed the emulator by buying the Company, and that was at the height of Playstation. There have been plenty of Playstation emulators since then.

Cool. I guess as long as Sony sells (cough) more PS1 games it'll work out great!

got the PSX emulator but where do you get the roms...this seems dumb no one has roms for it....

Playstation had 14 buttons - not including the analog sticks and L3 / R3.

How exactly do you plan on playing anything on the iphone from simply a usability standpoint?

Graphical / processing power are the last things that come to mind using a device with a total of 4 buttons.

?

Here is what looks like the OLDER controller (continue reading the posts for current controller),
I think if there is enough demand, someone would eventually come out with a hardware controller (with integrated battery pack!),
as people are already making home-brewed microphone / gps modules for the iPod touch and iPhone.

Cool idea, but I have no intentions of playing Playstation games on my iPhone. I mainly just use mine for listening to my music and talking on the phone (what a novel idea :p ). :)

Don't ask about where to get them. The info will be deleted by Moderators.

You can buy them from game stop and other gaming places. Perhaps Craigslist or ebay would work too.

I'll pass!

I keep for phone for internet, text, music, video, ect....but gaming was NEVER worked out for me on it. Not to mention battery life(which is already an issue with my iPhone...)

Still cool concept!

I remember at least one company makes an external battery pack with USB port so you can use the dock connector cable to charge the iPhone.

Now only if we can get Marathon working on the iPhone (forget Doom!) =p

New interface v0.1.0. Previous picture must be an older interface or concept.
Appears to be various skins for the controls.

Finally managed to get this working. Most of the ROMS I've found online have been compressed into .7z images that require table data to play so they are pretty much fubar. So far I've only been able to backup a few of my original PS1 games, most give me copy protection errors.

It's a neat idea, but honestly folks, it's just too slow, and stuttery in emulation. Even with the audio muted and frame skip on the frame rate is so slow and choppy and it's like fighting your enemies in super slow-mo and stepping out of the way of the bullets like you're Neo. I don't see how they could improve much to make it play smoother and faster. That's what the Emotion chip engine was designed to handle, something an iphone simply just can't.

Also it would be nice to play horizontally like a PSP. Any chance of a horizontal orientation next release?

Term based games (Final Fantasy) work alright, even if it's running slower.

One game that is suppose to work ok, is Omega Boost.
Suppose to run near full speed if you go to first person mode (someone said press select).

That web site has info on how to make ISO images from the game disks you own, such as:
PC: http://zodttd.com/forum/index.php?topic=448.0 or
PC: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15823

Psx4iphone supports img files, so not sure whether img files made with the Mac utility DropDMG
will work or not, give it a try and let us know!
http://c-command.com/dropdmg/

Also freeware http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15740

Well most of my game ISO's won't work. Tomb Raider only plays the opening cutscenes but when you try to load a game it freezes. Can't get Bushido Blade to run without crashing the app. So far, I have only gotten Asteroids to run as a .bin. I think the ISOs are fine, I think this app is just too buggy and unstable. It already needs an update.

7z images can typically be expanded with 7zX (search macupdate.com or versiontracker etc.)

No problem with Omega Boost. A number of working games are listed on that web site.

Note, those who donated money to the project told me that they got more recent betas to test out, so if you really want it to work, you might as well donate some money to it. (And donate to Installer, NES, and other things that you find useful on the iPhone!)

Can't you just rip PS1 games as an ISO using disk utility? That constitutes a legal backup.
