Please Advice how to compress quicktime file for dial-up?

I am making a new website where I make available classes online, these are about 1 hr. long. Audience will be most likely PC users with Dial up connection. So far, I am recording the classes, transferring them to iTunes as MP3's, opening the files in Quicktime and using the export feature to make the file a .MOV file, and I check Prepare for internet streaming>Fast Start Compressed. Then I place the file in my website via Adobe Contribute and people downloads it when posted via Quicktime.
Am I doing this right? Is there a better way or compression?

an mp4 of some sort would make an even smaller compress. If its just audio a 16kbps is all you'd need. I haven't used quicktime for exporting in a while but why are you transferring to .mov? why not just an mp3/mp4 for download?

you could set up something in itunes to convert the mp3 to an AAC at 16kbps

I tought if I put a MOV file, it will be identified in any machine as a quicktime file. So since MOV is tha most common QT file, then I made it that way, in addition, Quicktime does that by default. I am so new on this. I am no web developer, I don't know code, but made a research, experimented with dreamweaver, and with non-code programs like freeway and rapidweaver, but I was able to build the website with Contribute and Photoshop Elements. The purpose of the website is to make the audio available. Can anyone advice me what is the correct process to make a file available in my website, considering that the classes are to be available for PC Dial Up users in other countries? Maybe I have been wrong all this time.

Why do you need it to be opened in Quicktime particularly?

Is it not sufficient for an MP3 to be played in whatever playback software the end user has?

You are not trying to synchronize audio, right? You don't care if it gets downloaded to their hard drive? You aren't requiring rights restrictions?

A linked MP3 file is by far the easiest way.

There is an interesting fact though,

I'll take an example, I took one of the audio files and while it meausres 86.7 in MPEG, when I convert it to MP3 still iTunes says MPEG but reduces the file to 69.4 MB. Now, when it get's transformed by Quicktime into a compressed MOV, it measures 22.5 MB, which is better to download. I have no desire to be Quictime excusive, and I was wondering if there was a better option and even better compression. My aim is also to place video, not only audio, but I have no clue on how to place streaming video which will still be available to dial up Win users.
