Google has released their first web app for the iPhone. Google Talk!

I don't personally use Google Talk but this is a great step in the right direction to push other sites (yahoo, msn, aim) to create their own as well. Maybe even Apple will jump in and add a new icon to the front page!



Sorry guys, I was wrong about this. I'll check my sources a little closer next time. I just got excited. :(
 
Where did you read officially that Google Talk is available for the iPhone? I went to the Google Talk website and saw nothing in regards to the iPhone. :confused:
 
Awesome they're setting a standard, but I would like MSN (maybe the meebo guys will do something if MS can't be arsed)
 
WTF....

i just clicked on your link to try it out and it auto-signed me in...


now this wouldn't be scary except for the fact that a. I'm on my work computer and b. they don't let me look at internet email, so i've never logged on to gmail from work. how the hell did it auto-login? WTF!?
 
That's great!!!

Now maybe we'll hear less 'no iChat' complaints. On the other hand, probably not.

EDIT: BTW I just checked out your iPhone Apps Manager. That's amazing!! Looks excellent!
 
Wow @ your App Manager. It's amazing what AJAX can do.

Maybe Jobs wasn't talking out of his ass when he talked about web apps.

About the Google Talk Gadget... it seems that it's not FOR the iPhone specifically, but just a way to use Google Talk on the web. It just happens to be good for the iPhone.
 
i think the web apps thing is awesome

you can demo the app you want to use right on your computer, and you'll know wheter or not it works, and best of all, no spyware/crap when you use it, just the program

Someone else pointed out an interesting scenario where you pay for a cool program, but then the application's owner goes out of business. Unlike traditional software where you own a copy on your own device, you're out of luck.

True, there are plenty of subscription websites now, where you pay as you go. But if they go belly up, you're usually okay finding an alternative.

As they say, may we live in interesting times!

Wow! You're right, I'm sorry about that. I read it off of iPhoneAlley.com and a couple other sites and checked it out. I even right clicked and checked for flash, but I was in firefox at the time.

Sorry guys, I'll ask for this to get deleted. I had my hopes up for a few minutes.
