Hello everyone,

This item isn't for sale and I just wanted to know what the current market price for this First Generation Apple iPod 5GB M8697LL/A, that is sealed in its original factory packaging, meaning that it has never ever been removed from the box.

To add on to that, it is a first generation ipod with the physical scrollwheel.

Could you help me valuate the price of it, should it be sold next year, at Christmas? I do have physical possession of it just in case you were wondering.

I actually posted this in the HELP section but figured it should be posted here as well since it is also relevant.

Thanks a lot!

Gerald

No, my first iPod had the jog wheel and it was for PC.

Yes, I am absolutely, concretely sure, that this is the First Generation iPod that was ever introduced in the history of the world.
BUT it is 1.1, instead of 1.0, with 1.0 being the Mac only version.

Nevertheless, this is 1.1, and it was introduced shortly after 1.0 was released and yes, it has got the nice mechanical scroll wheel.

I think less than you wish.
If I had this box, i would wait another 30 years!

And you will only know by selling it at ebay :)

The worth is to each person, I myself would not give you more the 50 bucks for it as i prefer new technology ....but thats just me...for it to be really worth more keep it 20 years...

QFT :) Maybe not even that long. It's the beginning of a revolution in music and will probably go down in history, so a sealed original will make an absolute mint 30 years later. Don't think you'll get much for it just yet though.

I think it may have been leftover stock though, with a newer firmware, but it was definitely first gen... I would know, I took it apart

Was there a 1st generation Windows 5GB iPod?

I thought Windows compatibility was introcuced with the 2nd generation in 2002… 10 & 20GB.

Edit: Just saw on Amazon Apple 5 GB iPod (M8697LL/A, July 2002 Version)

The Windows version of the 5GB iPod is both:
- 2nd gen iPod
- Scroll wheel (not touch)

The 10 and 20GB versions of the 2G gained the touch wheel.

See everymac.com about the 1st gen ipod:
Mac Support: MacOS 9.2.1 & X 10.1 Windows Support: None*
Details: The original 5 GB iPod (M8513LL/A) was compatible with "MacOS 9.2.1 (or later) and MacOS X 10.1 (or later)". It also required iTunes 2 software, which was provided.

*The second revision of the 5 GB iPod (Scroll Wheel), retained when the 10 GB and 20 GB "2G/Touch Wheel" models were introduced, was available in a Windows compatible version (M8697LL/A). This version required a "PC with built-in Firewire or Windows-certified Firewire card, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP Home or Professional." The Windows compatible model shipped with MUSICMATCH Jukebox Plus software (iTunes for Windows was not yet available).

This makes this model the 1.1, not 2.0, correct?
I have researched quite extensively on this and maybe I should retrieve my bookmarks later on in the day and post it up here.

here it is

Jeez, judging by today's storage prices and factoring the iPrice. It should be about $249. $49 for the storage space, $200 for the name. (ba-dum-TIS - drum sound after a joke )
