I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. Today I downloaded an app onto my iPhone and I noticed that it also miraculously appeared on my iPad as well. I did not sync and neither of the devices were even attached to my laptop. Is this something new or am I just dense?

Firstly, your question is NOT stupid. it is valid, and important to you, therefore important to all. Many people will be asking the same question. And now you've provided a home for an answer.

It's a new feature whereby apps will automatically sync between devices and iTunes. It's actually really cool and freaky to see it happen. A precursor to full iCloud integration.
