I've been trying to fix this for a couple of days and have tried to search everywhere will very little progress.

Basically my iMac ran great and I wanted to dual boot with Windows 10. So I followed some good instructions on how to install it using boot camp and everything went great!

Windows ran very well and I was satisfied. So I went back to my mac and instantly the load times were a bit suspect. As soon as I logged in it was horribly slow. I learned it could be because of spotlight indexing.

Long story short now I've erased the boot camp partition using disk utility (now realizing that was a bad thing to do) and erased my main drive and tried to reinstall High Sierra over night. It was stuck on "about a minute remaining" for hours. So I hit restart and it was the same as before. Apple logo with incredibly slow load time then right at the end the spinning reticle and black screen.

Erase the drive and reformat again but it fails at the end saying it cannot be mounted. I can never get a successfull first aid run on either the main drive or new formatted sub drive.

I'm really hoping it's not fried somehow.

Please help

I've tried resetting the nvram before and it didn't help but now that the boot camp partition is removed I tried it again and it brought me to an "older" looking internet recovery mode.

I'm going to try to erase and re format again and perform some first aids after that.

I also am noticing the scheme is set to MBR...

During my search for answers I think I understand the problem being that bootcamp changes the HDD to an MBR...

I'm a layman when it comes to this level of diagnostics and computer engineering.

Still waiting for it to unmount.

Not sure if I should force unmount.

Ok so fixed the unmount. I simply ran a first aid on the drive and while it didn't work it did mount the sub drive which allowed me to unmount the main drive for some reason.

So now I've tried erasing the disk through disk utility and it worked but the first aid scans still come back with errors and the OS install screen says I cant install to the drive.

It's trying to install mountain lion by the way.

So now I'm trying to erase the disk through the terminal and then try to install the OS
