I have a question regarding yahoo messenger. On yahoo messenger I have a display image which is a photo of myself. I was speaking to someone via yahoo messenger who was using a mac (I don't use a mac myself yet). Anyhow the person said that he couldn't see my display image but when he "did an info on me using a command-i" (his exact words) he could see my picture. I'm curious if "command-i" on yahoo messenger allows the user to view the condensed picture which the non-mac users see or allows the user to view the actual file.

The picture on the yahoo window is very small in size and users cannot save it. Yahoo also crops the bottom part of the picture, so only the top portion of the picture is visible in the window. (I don't think it crops the file itself but only a cropped version is visible in the window.) Due to these controls, I posted the picture. So I was wondering if mac users who perform "command-i" to view yahoo messenger pictures are able to 1) see the actual photo or only the small version 2) save the photo to their computer, and 3) view the bottom portion of the file which is not visible in the yahoo window.
Thanks in advance. :)

In your head.
Not elegant, and I don't use Yahoo Messenger so I can't tell you if you can select Command-C, or drag the photo onto the desk top.

  • From Tiger Help in OSX
  • To take a picture of the whole screen, press Command-Shift-3.
  • To take a picture of part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture.
  • To take a picture of a window, the menu bar, the Dock, or other area, press Command-Shift-4, then press the Space bar. Move the pointer over the area you want so that it's highlighted, then click. If you decide you want to drag to select the area, press the Space bar again.
  • If you press Command-Shift-4 and decide you don't want to take the screen shot, press the Escape key.
  • Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.

Not a good start, but I hope something helps.

I was actually just curious about what he was able to see, the little condensed image that others see or the whole file. Thanks for the input though. :)

I believe command-i in Y! Messenger is a shortcut to view your yahoo profile. That's probably how he saw the avatar.
