Hi,
I have created a website in the last few days to help my uncles business. the domain is registered through godaddy and there are 5 emails with that addresss that are hosted through them also.

the site is hosted through my .mac account and i created the site in iWeb and used personal domain publishing.

he is happy with the site (although any comments you guys have would be much appreciated) but i am having some trouble with the emails.

the emails that are hosted through godaddy worked fine until maybe a day ago. som worked with the godaddy server settings no problem and i had a few other email addresses.

i dont see why the email should have anything to do with my .mac as they should be totally seperate right?!?!

any help is greatly appreciated!
thank you

hope this helps...

I had the exact same issue today and here's what I did to fix it:

1. In your godaddy.com account click manage domains
2. select the doman you need to fix
3. click "total dns control panel and mx records"
4. scroll down to "mx exchange" and click the edit button
4. edit both the listings under mx exchange and change your host name to homepage.mac.com

my email worked again in a matter of minutes

micah

actually I'm an idiot

That worked for about 4 hours and now it's randomly stopped working again.
So... don't try that!

Make sure you accept the changes. It is the solution though.

A record will be for your webhosting
MX record is for email.

ATM your email is trying to go through .mac, and since it doesn't exist, you're getting returned mail.

after phoning godaddy they diagnosed the problem. Their computers had not created an MX record, the guy said that one had been created while i was on the phone with him, and the email was working within the hour. he said he had never seen this before and definitely sounded confused when searching for the problem.

they were very knowledgeable though and some of the best support people i have ever talked to - in terms of knowing their stuff and actually being able to act on an issue instead of just giving pre programmed responses and sitting on a problem.
