Hi there bulletin board community

Since I updated to OSX 10.6.8 I am unable to use the Quartz driver, I tryed it with Zeus tool.

Previous updates worked always properly. Kudos to the developer of Zeus!

Already figured I got an off-wall type here:)

Namely the model XFX ZWFL / ZWFC ATI Radeon HD 4870

The card itself works fine, I just had to exchange the fan to reduce the heat.

I'm looking for a solution to make the drivers work but haven't found anything yet.

That is why I am seeking your help :D

I own a mac pro 2007 1.1 Devise I D: 0x00009440 ATI Radeon HD 4870 XFX 1GB

In case you need more background information, please let me know:D

Respectfully to all the smart people reading this:D

(I apologize in advance if this doppic already exists)

Take care with old 4870 cards! Voltage regulators are infamous to fail on those (depending on the card's design) and may damage your monitor in doing so.

If you can afford it, i'd recommend looking for a 6870 card, which consumes less power (= less heat), offers ootb functionality under 10.6.8 (caveats: no boot screen, no Steam games, no Apple DVD player playback - though all of those can be mitigated) without finicky driver tweaking and is significantly more powerful. On top of it - as it is already one generation behind, prices should be quite affordable nowadays.

Here is a repository of old versions of netkas' QE/CI ATI Radeon HD 48xx "exotic" card patches for different versions of Mac OS X, which enable hardware acceleration on unsupported cards:

http://exoticpatch.eu.ki

FYI, the patch for 10.8.1 is the same as 10.8.0.

The latest version is usually somewhere on netkas' OSX and Graphics Cards forum. For example, here is the patch for 10.8.2 build 12C35.

4870 is not an "excotic" card. The problem with the ZWFC 4870 is that QECI support just simply dropped around 10.6.something. Netkas has never done patches for them. The solution has just been to revert to older drivers, and that possibility was broken on 10.6.somethingelse.

OP, get a new card.

thanks for feedback

up version osx 10.6.6, I've had no problem, even update with zeus.

missing in the patch Q-driver device id for my card? or more?
