Hello all,

Long story short I am pretty computer illiterate but am considering buying a new Imac for my wife for her birthday but need help to see if it is the right thing for her. In 2006 I bought her a 24" imac 2.33ghz with a 7600gt (don't know if the info in relevant but am just copying it from the reciept). She uses the Logic music program a lot and enjoys playing games pretty often. This is the new imac I was looking at from the online apple store:

27-inch: 3.1GHz
3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

So heres my question, will she even notice a big speed/efficiency boost using the new imacs? Her current one is pushing 5 years old but would maybe like to get her a different gift if it will not be a noticeable difference from her 2006 model. Don't get me wrong, I do understand that the 2011 has to be faster but don't know if it is worth the upgrade. Considering how she uses it do you think it would be a good idea for her or is the older model good enough? Would you be happy with this upgrade if your significant other got this for you considering you used the computer for the same purposes as her?

Thank you SO much in advance for your time and opinions!

I'm pretty sure your wife has a 24'' iMac if it is from 2006. Given that, the screen alone will be a noticeable upgrade for her.

I have no way of knowing what kind of games she plays or what she uses logic for, but I would imagine that there would be a fairly noticeable difference.

sorry for my typo I indeed mean to write 24" not 27" for the 2006 model. she does a lot of electronic music mixing using the Logic software. she has about 6 different keyboards all cabled into (some way or another) the computer along with the mixer. All quite too complicated for me:) Thanks for the reply friend!
