please help - iMac USB ports only working after restart?

Hi,

So my iPhone will only connect to my iMac immediately following a restart. All subsequent times, the phone won't even charge from the computer. Same is true with my flash USB drive (but not with my mouse adn printer they constatnly work).

So is there a way to just "reset" the USB connections in some way, to work around what seems to be a hardware issue on my old iMac G5? any ideas would be very very much appreciated

WEll, it seems like resetting the VRAM (is that what it's called? I held down command-option-p-r as i restarted) solved this issue for now.
