Guys - I have searched here but cannot find a solution.

I have a 1.8 Air with the SSD. It has been great until recently. I mean, it gets WAY too hot but I can live with it. But, I have had two problems emerge recently:

1) For about the past two months, when I am at home with my TimeCapsule, the Air will never remember the network once it has been to sleep. When I force it back on to the network, it stays on for about 30 seconds, then drops it. Every time. When I force it on a second time it stays connected. Now, I know others have had this problem with TC's and Air. I have reset my TC to try to fix the problem but to no avail. This is very annoying but is NOT my main problem (I mention it only in case it is relevant to the diagnosis of my real issue)

2) For the past three weeks for so, I have had a much worse problem: the computer has become disastrously slow when surfing the net. Pretty much all the time - although occasionally it will have a good spurt of two or three page views, and then its back to pre dial up speeds. this is happening wherever I get online - not just on my TC. In fact, it is even happening when I am directly connected through the Ethernet dongle. And with either Safari or Firefox.

The computer behaves normally otherwise. It is no slower on start up, when running other apps etc. I thought it might be a bad airport card, but the poor Ethernet performance seems to rule that out. By the way, I have a MacPro that is connected wirelessly to the TC - and it has no issues whatsoever. Lastly, I would mention that when I run a bandwidth speed test, I get poor results, but nothing like as poor as they should be. I mean, the test that is usually instantaneous runs for 15 seconds or so and tells me I am getting 500 kbps. It is almost as if the computer is holding up the command going through the browser for a period - when it eventually goes it performs ok - like a stutter. In fact, now that I think about it, when I am browsing, I do not have pages slowly building - rather I get nothing for a (long) period and then it eventually builds all at once.

So, that is my story. I would be very grateful for any guidance. I will head in to the "geniuses" if I cannot get a fix here, but I have very little confidence in those guys.

Wasn't there a update to fix the airport in the airs?

what version of OSX are you running?

I am running the latest OS and also the recently updated firmware. My problem predated the latest updates and has not been fixed by them

Get a shout out to the Apple Tech Support, they can help you via telephone. I've found the online/tutorial thing to be a bit confusing at times, and the Techs always ask me if I tried other ways of resolving my problem(s), a trip to the Apple Store could be the last resort. :(

On your slow internet connection...
I'm beginning to think an apple update recently did something that hampers the DNS connection. My intel iMac had great internet speeds until very recently, when it began having problems like you describe here.
I did some searching around and took a suggestion to switch to an OpenDNS server. It instantly brought the net back up to speed, actually even better than it was before.
I'm no tech expert, and I don't know why it works, but it has fixed the problem for a number of people. I'd suggest giving it a try, it's very easy. You'll have to manually change you network preferences to use these DNS servers:
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
If you need better instructions, they are here:
https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/device/apple-osx-leopard

Good luck!

Sorry, I somehow failed to read this post when I was reading the thread.

Rereading the first post though, you said it's slow at home. If you mean only at home and not on other networks then that implies it's the Time Capsule misbehaving rather than the MBA so updating the Time Capsule Firmware may sort it. Or I suppose that if you have updated it, do you think it's worth rolling back the Firmware on the Time Capsule?

Good luck anyhow.

Thanks. But, as I said in my OP - "this is happening wherever I get online - not just on my TC. In fact, it is even happening when I am directly connected through the Ethernet dongle. And with either Safari or Firefox."

Slow internet connection

No problemo. Like I said, there have been a lot of posts about this problem in the last week or so. I'm just trying to spread the word about this fix.

Hi all!

I'm new to the Mac world and the last week, especially in the last couple of days I noticed that the internet is very very slow on my Mac. I tried to change the dns servers and I was able to insert the opendns servers, however I have one there that I can't remove. How can I remove it in order to keep only the open dns?
Thanks a lot!!
