Hello,

I have an iphone that I purchased the first day they were released in the US back in June. It has been unopened until today. I would like to unlock it for a friend that lives outside of the country. I have spent the past hour reading various unlock methods, but none of them seem to describe the firmware version I am using which is 3.12.06_G. I am hoping someone will be kind enough to help me out as to what I should do to unlock the phone with this firmware? Thank you so much - I'm sorry to post a new thread on this topic that has been so widely discussed, but I searched the forum for this firmware version and could not find a single reference to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS - I have an acivated iPhone through AT&T - I am wondering if the use of my activated SIM card in the unactivated/new phone I'm trying to unlock might help the process in anyway?

AT&T activated sim won't help in anyway.

You should download firmware 1.1.1 and firmware 1.1.2. Depends on how tech savvy you are, you can upgrade to 1.1.1 (much easier) and unlock that or try for 1.1.2.

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to upgrade the firmware to 1.1.1, but can't seem to get past the power and home button - my iTunes does not offer a restore button as instructions suggest. Could you please recommend a site that has instructions for doing this? There are so many out there, it's hard to sort through what's what. I am somewhat tech-saavy, but I've never attempted to unlock and iPhone or any other device. Thank you

OK. I've successfully gotten to the point where I can manually restore... it seems I wasn't holding the keys down properly. Now, once I have 1.1.1 - can you please direct me to the best site/instructions for unlocking? Thank you again, I appreciate the help greatly!

Bypass Activation and Jailbreak your phone (installingcAPPSNAP)

You need to go to www.jailbreakme.com on your URL

Download APPSNAPP application and from then on follow these instructions:

Open installer, and install the update if prompted.
Go to sources and tap Edit and Add
Add this URL: http://i.unlock.no
Tap Done and then Refresh
Go to Install (at bottom) and scroll down to the Unlocking Tools category and install AnySIM
When installed you can press the home button, and you will find a new AnySIM icon on your home screen. Launch it and follow the instructions.
The unlocking process will take about 5-10 minutes, in the end it should say it was successful!
To clean up your phone, launch Installer and uninstall AnySIM. Then go to Settings → General → Auto-Lock and set it to a prefered value.
Congratulations, you are done!
